about

“Saint” John Peel, when he was alive, was endlessly fucked about by the same corporation who now, at threat from the Tories, function as a simpering mouth-piece for the Right. Banished to the graveyard shift, shunted around in the schedules, the sword of Damocles hanging over his head and here was a man who for all his faults wanted to do nothing but broaden the horizons of his audience. One of our Beloved Hosts, Phil Reynolds, had the honour of doing a Peel Session so can speak first hand of this. Now the corporation canonise him but if they really wanted to pay him tribute they’d actually play some exciting new music that educates, informs and entertains.
