about
So on one hand we have people buying records and not playing them and on the other hand we have people listening to tonnes of music either not paying for any of it or paying a monthly subscription to do so. A lot of the mad frothing at the mouth music fans for whom it genuinely enriches their lives aren’t paying for it and a lot of people who buy records don’t listen to them, just use them as a status symbol. Meanwhile, the artists can’t make a living out of their music anymore.
There’s value in scarcity: you can find yourself, as I do when confronted by Spotify, just frantically trying to cram as much music in your head rather than cherishing and loving it. Living with a record, playing it over and over again because you can’t afford to buy any more, the tracks you didn’t like at first becoming your favourites. This is a thing of the past: and unlike the aforementioned spiteful Little Englander bastards this is a past that we once had, but never again.

Such a Bordellos record is this. Typically eccentric and recorded and played to their own unique specifications. But, as usual, amongst it the melodies are pretty much all a joy to behold. In a couple of numbers I'm reminded of the quaint off-kilter songs Lou Reed used to write for Mo Tucker to sing in the Velvets. Gavin Hellyer

An exceptional release for many reasons really, not least because of the excellent Save The Children cause. Also, though, unlike most Split projects, it features 2 FULL new albums from 2 very fine current groups, one from the US and one from the UK. Gavin Hellyer
A female voice that feels out of another century quivers over a folk harp on the 11 tracks that make up this exclusive video album. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 14, 2016
